During the past Noche Blanca, the XRAI Lab laboratory and research group (part of the ADMIRABLE group), together with the PAINT teaching innovation group (Intergenerational Heritage and New Technologies) from the University of Burgos, were present at the Museum of Burgos. On this occasion, they presented the immersive experience “Getting to Know the Isis of Clunia,” an innovative Virtual Reality proposal that allowed attendees to immerse themselves in a recreation of the Roman theater of Clunia, guided by a digital figure of the goddess Isis.
Through this playful and interactive application, visitors were not only able to learn about the history of one of the museum’s most important archaeological finds, but also explore its iconography and historical context through an educational virtual tour. The virtual figure of Isis accompanied users throughout the experience, revealing key elements of her representation in Antiquity and facilitating the understanding of heritage from a technological and accessible perspective.
The application was developed by Bruno Rodríguez García within the framework of his doctoral thesis, directed by Andrés Bustillo Iglesias, and with the collaboration of María José Zaparaín Yáñez, researchers from the PAINT group. The group has had the necessary historical and artistic advisory support to ensure the accuracy of the content, in addition to validating the experience with users of different ages in earlier testing phases.
The activity was carried out in two sessions, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 10:00 PM to 12:30 AM, and was very well received by the public. More than 150 people of all ages enjoyed this proposal that combined heritage, technology, and cultural dissemination in an innovative format. Participants highlighted the quality of the experience, which not only allowed them to get to know the figure of Isis, but also to appreciate the role of the museum in spreading historical knowledge.
XRAI Lab is a research laboratory at the University of Burgos specialized in the design and development of Extended Reality applications (Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality). Its research focuses on the effects of these technologies in the fields of learning, training, and health, while also promoting the dissemination of their applications in cultural and recreational contexts, such as in this special collaboration with the Museum of Burgos during the Noche Blanca.
