DIXGAME

DixGame is an educational application that serves as a pedagogical tool for children aged 8 to 12 with dyslexia. This serious game aims to help these children improve their reading skills.

DixGame features two mini-games through which children can practice their skills:

  ·  Whack-a-Mole: In this game, players must accurately hit the moles that appear. These moles feature letters or words that children must identify before hitting them. The difficulty level varies with more or less similar letters, words and pseudowords. Additionally, the moles appear faster as the game progresses.

  ·  Memory: In this game, children must match pairs of cards on the table. Depending on the level, cards may feature uppercase and lowercase letters, more or less similar fonts and colors, etc. Players must complete the pairs before time runs out.

Awards

This application aims to serve as a pedagogical tool to help children with dyslexia improve their reading skills.

  • Enhance letter identification and distinction

One of the challenges for individuals with dyslexia is difficulty in recognizing and differentiating letters, especially those that are very similar such as “b” or “p”. Through these mini-games, children work on letter recognition and distinction.

  • Improve reading speed

As the child progresses through the levels, the games’ difficulty will increase to enhance reading agility.

  • Progressive difficulty within and across levels

Within each level, difficulty will progressively increase, allowing the child to improve as they play. Additionally, they can choose from different levels of each game to tailor the difficulty to their needs.

The application was developed using Blender for the creation of 3D assets and Unreal Engine for programming and adapting the game to immersive Virtual Reality.

  • Engaging Environment

The game is set in a carnival environment that children can associate with fun and playful memories. The environment is based on the template from the NVIDIA VR Funhouse game.

  • Gamified mini-games

Two mini-games have been created so that children can choose which one best suits their tastes and needs. These games have been gamified with scores and progressive difficulty so that children do not feel like they are only learning.
