3DC, a children's video game for depression awareness

3DC is a virtual reality video game that serves as an introductory tool to raise awareness of depression. It is aimed at children from 8 to 12 years old to learn the main symptoms and risk factors of depression, to empathize with affected people and to encourage affective communication. To achieve this, this videogame develops a narrative around a 9-year-old boy with depression to show them his feelings and the problems caused by this condition.

In-game learning is based on a theory specifically developed for serious games with social and psychological applications. Children learn about depression through the narrative of the characters and interactions with the environment. Entertaining gameplay is also developed to show the main character’s problems and how to help him.
